Brock Lesnar gets namedropped at SummerSlam 2024
Brock Lesnar's name was a bit taboo to mention in the early part of 2024. Triple H stated on multiple occasions that WWE was open to working with Lesnar but the latter did not appear on programming since being reportedly alluded to in the lawsuit involving Vince McMahon. However, things may have changed as he was namedropped at SummerSlam 2024.
The context of this was the CM Punk-Drew McIntyre match at SummerSlam 2024. By far the most anticipated match on the card, it would be Punk's first singles match in WWE for over a decade.
WWE commentators mentioned that the last time Punk wrestled at SummerSlam was in 2013 when he faced Brock Lesnar.
That match was a certified classic, just like CM Punk's match against Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam. While it didn't have all the drama of the extra referee, his match against Brock Lesnar in 2013 is widely remembered as one of the best in a decade.
Punk received a huge ovation for his return at SummerSlam, but his emotions got the best of him and he directly cost himself at SummerSlam when he got into a scuffle with referee Seth Rollins.
Just like his match against Lesnar in 2013, CM Punk lost at SummerSlam 2024 against Drew McIntyre.
