Brock Lesnar needs to return to face Cody Rhodes or Roman Reigns, according to WWE veteran (Exclusive)
The WWE status of Brock Lesnar continues to be a hot topic of discussion across the industry. The veteran superstar has been away for more than a year amid controversy, with rumors and speculation surrounding his future. A former champion and producer, Gerald Brisco has just pitched a few familiar return feuds for Lesnar.
The Conqueror last wrestled at WWE SummerSlam 2023. The loss to Cody Rhodes wrapped their series at 2-1 after trading wins at Backlash and Night of Champions in May. On the other end, the ten superstars who have wrestled Lesnar the most are all from earlier in his career: Big Show, Kurt Angle, The Undertaker, John Cena, Chris Benoit, Randy Orton, Edge, Eddie Guerrero, Rico Constantino, Rob Van Dam. Roman Reigns is eleventh.
Despite the number of matches with Lesnar and Reigns or the recent Brock vs. Cody series, Gerald Brisco is ready for more. Speaking on the latest Live Q&A with JBL and Brisco on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Backstage Pass, the 78-year-old WWE Hall of Famer was asked if he thinks Lesnar will return, and if so, who should he go up against.
"I definitely think we haven't... I hope we haven't seen the last of Brock Lesnar, because who wants to see the last of Brock Lesnar? Who wants to see the last of an icon like that? Who wants to see the last of a physical specimen like Brock Lesnar? Who, in the ring, can do it all. For a guy his size, he can work with anybody, so I certainly hope we haven't seen the last of him. And who would I like to see him work? Of course I want to see him work with Cody and Roman, I think it's money with either one of those guys," Gerald Brisco said. [From 34:55 to 35:31]
Brisco hoped we hadn't already seen the last of The Animal inside a WWE ring. He felt either Cody Rhodes or Roman Reigns would be very suitable opponents for the veteran to feud with upon his return. However, he noted that owing to Reigns' longevity in the Stamford-based promotion a rivalry with the OTC would possibly be more financially lucrative. He also added that he really wanted to watch The Beast walk down the ramp in the near future.
"I think it's a little bit more money with Roman, just because Roman's longevity over Cody, and that's not sliding Cody back to number two at all, but Roman had that longevity that Cody has not had at this time, and 2-3 years from now it'll be Cody, but maybe you won't want to see Brock in 2-3 years... but yeah, I want to see that animal walk [down] that ramp again, and see that reaction of the people. [...] To me, he's great," he added. [From 35:32 - 36:03]
Lesnar was set to return to WWE for WrestleMania XL season, but plans were nixed because he was alluded to the scandal surrounding Vince McMahon and John Laurinaitis from Janel Grant's lawsuit. While WWE seemed to distance itself from the veteran at times, Triple H recently expressed optimism in bringing The Beast back.
Brock Lesnar seemingly snubbed from WWE GOAT list
Brock Lesnar, Ric Flair, and Seth Rollins were among the top names left off a recent list of the twenty greatest WWE wrestlers of all time. Released by Sports Illustrated, the list was topped by Steve Austin, while Becky Lynch was ranked twentieth.
After Austin, second place went to Hulk Hogan, followed by The Rock, John Cena, Roman Reigns, and The Undertaker at number six. Triple H ranked seventh, followed by Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Bruno Sammartino, Randy Savage, Kurt Angle, and Roddy Piper at lucky number thirteen.
Edge aka Adam Copeland came in at fourteen, followed by Randy Orton, Andre the Giant, CM Punk, current AEW star and ROH World Champion Chris Jericho, and Mick Foley at nineteen.
The WWE Universe seemed to have bigger conflicts with the omissions of Lesnar and Flair, with honorable mentions to Rollins, Bryan Danielson, and AJ Styles. A well-respected outlet, SI was accused of snubbing Lesnar, Ric, Charlotte Flair, and others. There were also significant disagreements over the individual rankings of stars like Orton, Cena, Reigns, Triple H, Hart, Michaels, and Andre the Giant.
