Bully Ray weighs in on how WWE should've booked former champion's betrayal of major faction
WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray has shared his thoughts on Wes Lee betraying The Rascalz on NXT this week. He thinks that it was done well, but it should've been milked a little bit more.
At The Great American Bash Week Two, The Kardiac Kid and Zachary Wentz collided with Axiom and Nathan Frazer in the main event for the NXT Tag Team Championship. They failed to recapture the titles, and after the bout, Wes Lee shockingly attacked his teammates, turning heel in the process.
On Busted Open Radio, wrestling veteran Bully Ray said he thinks that The Rascalz got the job done on WWE NXT, as everyone in the crowd was shocked when the turn happened. However, the ECW legend added that it was rushed a little bit and should've been milked more.
"I don't think we got that simmer and the boil. Listen, there's a lot of ways to get the job done, and I do think the three of them got the job done last night. They did get the reaction. I would've liked to seen them milk this a lot more...There was no pause, or dramatic pause of shock, of absolute shock. Like, he went right to his line. It's like 'Superkick, okay,' and I'm supposed to say 'What are you doing? That's your brother!'” said Bully Ray.
He added:
"I would've liked to have seen shock on his face. I would've liked for him to have made eye contact with Wes, and not even say 'What did you do? Why did you do this?' Let his facials and his eyes do the talking. Look at the guy that's down. Look back at Wes, and then deliver the line, like 'Why would you do that?' That's your brother.' There should've been more of a pause there. It's like they went right to it." (H/T Wrestling INC.)
Why did Wes Lee betray The Rascalz on WWE NXT?
Wes Lee and Zachary Wentz were part of a team known as MSK on NXT. However, they separated after the latter was released from the company. Wentz returned to TNA. However, after NXT and TNA formed a working relationship, The Rascalz was reunited.
They even appeared on TNA programming recently. WWE NXT General Manager Ava asked Wes Lee on X why he betrayed The Rascalz, and he responded by saying that he did it because he felt like it.
It'll be interesting to see how Wes Lee will perform as a heel in NXT.
