"Can’t have her thinking Daddy’s a loser" - Top WWE star breaks silence after major championship win on SmackDown
This week's WWE SmackDown saw a major title change. Following the Friday Night Show, a 39-year-old star broke his silence after a massive victory.
Johnny Gargano finally embraced the dark side, alongside his #DIY tag team partner, Tommaso Ciampa, who had been teasing a heel turn in the past few weeks on the blue brand.
Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins of the Street Profits were attacked backstage on the December 6, 2024, edition of SmackDown, forcing them to relinquish their tag team title opportunity against the Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin). Gargano and Ciampa stepped in as their replacements.
The #DIY members pretended to argue and act like they were about to break up during the tag team title match. However, Gargano turned heel and delivered a low blow to Chris Sabin. This deception allowed the Psycho Killer and Johnny Wrestling to defeat the MCMG and become two-time WWE Tag Team Champions.
On Instagram, Tommaso Ciampa shared a photo of his daughter watching TV after he and Gargano became the new tag team titleholders. The 39-year-old WWE star expressed that he would do whatever it took to succeed, driven by a desire to prove to his daughter that he was not a loser.
"Whatever it takes. Can’t have her thinking Daddy’s a loser. 🖤," he wrote.

WWE veteran reflects on #DIY's heel turn on SmackDown
Wrestling veteran Dutch Mantell shared his views on #DIY winning the WWE Tag Team Championship for the second time. The legendary manager claimed he was surprised after Johnny Wrestling embraced the villainous side.
Speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Smack Talk, Dutch Mantell praised Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano's WWE Tag Team Championship win and commended the creative execution and the unexpected nature of the storyline. The veteran also predicted future success for the team.
"Well executed, and it made you think. I am watching it, and after all these years, I can’t tell where it’s going. That’s the beauty about wrestling. The way they did it, it kinda surprised me, in a good way. These guys; they are going to have some barnburners. They are going to burn it up. It was preconceived; how did they do this? They just did; they figured it out and made Sabin and Shelley look like goofs for not figuring it out themselves. Now they can put these guys in the ring, give them 15 minutes, and they’ll burn the building down," Mantell said.

It remains to be seen if #DIY was behind the backstage attack on the Street Profits last night.
