Carlito's allegedly offensive line on live TV could be taken "as a joke," says WWE veteran (Exclusive)
Carlito is apparently in some trouble backstage, owing to a recent WWE RAW segment where he improvised a line. However, a veteran believes what the 45-year-old said could simply be taken as a joke.
Carlito recently had a segment where he stated that he had to learn Chinese to speak to Kairi Sane and IYO SKY. This statement rubbed many the wrong way, considering the two stars are Japanese. According to reports, the incident led to backstage heat for the RAW Superstar, and now former WWE head writer Vince Russo has also had his say in the matter.
Speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's The Wrestling Outlaws show, Russo expressed incredulity and stated he couldn't understand why Carlito's line would offend people. He felt it could easily be taken as a joke and was sure the talents backstage didn't have an issue with the star. However, the veteran also noted that times had changed and that they now live in a world that is different from before.
"I am just saying, that sounds like an internet thing. I can't, I can't imagine anybody got their feathers ruffled, because you could take it as a joke. I mean you could take Carlito saying that to be funny. And I doubt talent would be offended, but who knows bro. We live in a different world Doctor Chris, so who knows," he said. [2:42 onwards]

Ex-WWE star EC3 also shared his thoughts on the matter
According to EC3, even if the comment made by Carlito was in bad taste, it could easily be chalked up to him being a heel.
On the same episode of Sportskeeda Wrestling's The Wrestling Outlaws show, the former WWE star sarcastically made fun of the situation where a heel character had said something, and everyone else was offended by it. He stated:
"The bad guy pro-wrestler said something that upset somebody, unbelievable. Terrible. Close it down, end this show, over. Netflix deal, gone. TKO, I am out. Dana White disavowed [...] This is almost on par with these, the Ring Boys. This is how offending it is. [changes to a serious tone] It's not true, It was, sarcasm." [11:34 onwards]
For now, it remains to be seen what is next for Carlito down the line in WWE, and whether he will face any backlash from management for the segment.
