Chances of CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41, veteran weighs in
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Roman Reigns are likely opponents for Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41. But, could CM Punk be his challenger instead?
Most cannot fathom The American Nightmare dropping the belt before The Show of Shows. When asked about this possible matchup, Dave Meltzer shut it down.
Speaking on Keepin' It 100, Meltzer noted that The Final Boss will come back to face The American Nightmare. Even if the wrestler-turned-actor cannot make it due to schedule conflicts, the veteran journalist feels that CM Punk vs. World Heavyweight Champion Gunther is more plausbile:
"I think Cody-Rock has got to be the main event [of WrestleMania 41]. Unless Rock just can't do it, it's gotta be the main event. But Punk-Gunther, it's weird because I think Punk should win the title, but I don't know that it should be from Gunther," he said. [From 1:30:30 to 1:30:48]
Meanwhile, the former AEW World Champion and Drew McIntyre will lock horns inside Hell in a Cell at Bad Blood. WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker believes the one who walks out with the feud-ending win will challenge The Ring General for the World Heavyweight Championship. Taker feels it has to be Punk, probably at WrestleMania 41 itself.
CM Punk's next stop if he wins Hell in a Cell at WWE Bad Blood, Tommy Dreamer weighs in
ECW Legend Tommy Dreamer expressed excitement for the Hell in a Cell contest at Bad Blood. Dreamer noted that The Scottish Warrior could pull off a babyface turn after defeating The Best in the World.
Be that as it may, he also added that if Punk were to walk away with the win, a World Heavyweight Championship match is the only way to go next:
"I think the only place CM Punk can go is the world title. I think, we have a CM Punk/Gunther match, that's a massive main event waiting. Drew [McIntyre], I don't know where he goes. It maybe gives Drew a little bit of time away."
As for The Ring General, he is booked for the upcoming episode of RAW, where he will defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Sami Zayn.
