Chelsea Green reacts to popular WWE star naming her the favorite to win the Women's United States Champion

A popular WWE star recently named Chelsea Green their favorite to become the inaugural Women's United States Champion. SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis unveiled the new title on the November 8 edition of the blue brand's show.

Chelsea Green has become a crowd favorite lately, thanks to her impressive character work. The 33-year-old, however, does not have many wins under her belt. Despite this, backstage interviewer Cathy Kelley named The Hot Mess her pick to win the recently introduced championship.

During her appearance on Late AF Production's B4 the Bell podcast, Cathy Kelley was asked for her pick to become the inaugural Women's United States Champion. In response, the 36-year-old chose Green and stated that the latter would be upset if she didn't. The former WWE Women's Tag Team Champion recently took to her X (FKA Twitter) account to note that Kelley was correct.

"And @catherinekelley was correct," she wrote.

Chelsea Green to compete in the WWE Women's United States Championship tournament on SmackDown

The tournament to determine the first WWE Women's United States Champion began last week on SmackDown. In the first match, Bayley faced B Fab and current Women's Speed Champion Candice LeRae. The Role Model prevailed despite impressive performances from both her opponents.

In the tournament's second first-round match, Chelsea Green will face Blair Davenport and one-half of the WWE Women's Tag Team Champions, Bianca Belair. The winner of the triple-threat match will lock horns with Bayley in the semi-final.

On the other side of the tournament bracket, Chelsea Green's tag team partner, Piper Niven, will face Jade Cargill and Michin for a place in the semi-final. Naomi, Tiffany Stratton, and Elektra Lopez will be the final three women competing for the title.

The winner of the tournament and the inaugural Women's United States Champion will be crowned at Saturday Night's Main Event on December 14.
