CM Punk came up with iconic tag team's name, former WWE champion reveals

A former WWE Women's Champion revealed that CM Punk came up with an iconic tag team name. Layla El recently shared the origins of her team-up with Michelle McCool which lasted for two years.

WWE.com named LayCool the 37th greatest tag team in company history. Layla and McCool held the Divas Championship at the same time. Layla was also a one-time WWE Women's Champion, while McCool had two separate reigns with it.

Speaking on the No Name Wrestling podcast, Layla opened up about LayCool's legacy and how it started. She explained that it was CM Punk who came up with the "LayCool" name when they were brainstorming backstage.

"CM Punk was actually the one who helped us come up with a name backstage. Yeah, we were like trying to figure out a name. They were like, 'You need a name. We need a name.' And then he was the one that actually wrote it down and said, 'Do this,' and we're like, 'Yeah, we love that. Let's do that,'" Layla said. [14:17 - 14:32]

Punk was part of SmackDown in 2009 and was the leader of the Straight Edge Society. Layla and Michelle McCool were also on the blue brand at the same time when LayCool was officially formed on July 3 of that year.

CM Punk explains why there's animosity between him and Seth Rollins

On RAW's debut on Netflix, CM Punk will take on his bitter rival Seth Rollins in a one-on-one match. Punk was at the Netflix Kickoff event last Wednesday, answering questions about his match against Rollins. He also explained why there was no love lost between the two of them.

"I think I want to spend less time on the details and more on, again, history, this is just what happens when you get two guys in the business that, in a way, have no peers. The locker room is only so big; it can only fit so many egos," Punk said. [H/T Wrestling, Inc.]

Punk and Rollins have a long history, dating back to when they were still on the independent circuit grinding it out. The Visionary is also upset with Punk leaving WWE, vowing never to return, and then coming back last year.
