CM Punk compared to legendary former WWE Champion by Tommy Dreamer: "He has this cloud of controversy"

CM Punk's return to the top of WWE has been nothing short of a fairytale. A TNA star recently compared The Best in the World to the late Sid Vicious.

ECW legend and current TNA star Tommy Dreamer has been in the wrestling business for over 30 years. He has worked with many top stars and has watched Punk wrestle closely.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Dreamer drew parallels between Punk and the late Sid Vicious. He noted that they both had a cloud of controversy over their heads throughout their career, even though they were not similar in any other way.

"I kind of have to compare him to, not the intensity or the promo skills, but at the time, he reminds me of what CM Punk was. Wherever CM Punk goes, he has this cloud of controversy as well... He’s got the intangibles, the ‘it factors’, all those things, the look, he has this aura about him," said the TNA star.

He noted that WWE fans have been drawn to characters similar to that played by Punk and Vicious over the years. The former WWE Champion blurred the lines between hero and villain, similar to what The Best in the World has done.

"Sid was really when he came back like that, he was the bad guy that you liked. When he dropped to the knee and he asked for adulation instead of the boos, the people would give him cheers." [H/T Inside The Ropes]

Tommy Dreamer’s comments make a lot of sense, especially because both Sid Vicious and CM Punk carved a niche in the industry. They are both regarded as WWE legends.

CM Punk is being haunted by a villainous Drew McIntyre in WWE

Drew McIntyre has become one of the most vicious heels on Monday Night RAW. He has gone back to being The Scottish Psychopath after playing the babyface role of The Scottish Warrior for a long time.

CM Punk defeated Drew McIntyre in a Strap Match at the WWE Bash in Berlin PLE. Many believed the rivalry would end there, but the latter had other plans.

He attacked Punk on the latest edition of RAW and left him in a bloodied mess before sending him to the hospital. WWE fans will likely see a rematch between the two stars at Bad Blood.
