CM Punk extends little-known 18-year record at WWE Bash in Berlin 2024
CM Punk evened the score against Drew McIntyre at Bash in Berlin 2024, with the two bitter rivals now locked at 1-1. What went unnoticed was the fact that a little-known 18-year-old personal record of Punk was extended.
What we witnessed at WWE Bash in Berlin was arguably one of the greatest Strap Matches in wrestling history. The hatred between the two men came to the fore as they attempted to destroy each other at every turn. Punk even made McIntyre tap out via the Sharpshooter, made famous by the legendary, Bret Hart. However, a submission wasn't going to secure a victory. Nothing else would except touching all four corners - something Punk did after hitting multiple GTSs in succession.
By winning at Bash in Berlin, CM Punk extended his Strap Match record to 3-0. According to Cagematch.net, Punk's first Strap Match was in OVW on May 3, 2006, where he beat Brent Albright. His second match was on June 7, 2009, when The Best in the World beat the late WWE Superstar, Umaga. This marks his third win in the stipulation, extending his personal record to 18 years.
This could very well have been the last Strap Match of CM Punk's career. It's clear that with the score being 1-1, a trilogy bout will likely take place at Bad Blood 2024. According to recent reports, the two could meet in a Hell in a Cell Match in the main event of the premium live event in Atlanta, Georgia.
Either way, if this is the end of Strap Matches for Punk, which isn't a crazy assumption to make considering the stage he is in his career, it's been a good run.
Any accusations of CM Punk being "washed" in the ring have likely been silenced after Bash in Berlin if it wasn't already proved after his match against Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam 2024, earlier this month.
