CM Punk should have faced 16-time champion right after his return last year, says WWE legend
CM Punk has been making headlines all around the world with his recent classic match against Drew McIntyre inside Hell in a Cell at WWE Bad Blood 2024. The Best in the World, since making his return at Survivor Series: WarGames 2023, marked his first big feud against The Scottish Warrior, and clearly has entertained fans all this time.
While Drew McIntyre is one of the biggest haters of Punk in WWE, one more name right above the former is Seth Rollins. The Visionary, who is a 16-time WWE champion, has often shown his hatred for the Best in the World, the first time at Survivor Series: WarGames 2023 itself when Punk made his blockbuster return. However, a match between both men is still awaited.
During a recent episode of the Busted Open Radio podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray addressed a potential Punk-Rollins match and stated that the heat and animosity that was felt at Survivor Series: WarGames 2023 was unreal.
"Think about the night that Punk returned at Survivor Series, and Rollins did not know about it, or Rollins only knew about it minutes before it happened—whatever. However long he knew, Rollins wasn’t happy. Seth Rollins was angry that night. You could feel the animosity, you could feel the hatred, you could feel the anger," Bully Ray said. [6:49 - 7:15]
The 53-year-old veteran further added that WWE should have booked Rollins vs. Punk right after Survivor Series 2023, stating that the hatred between both men seems to have faded lately.
"One half of the booker in me would have put Seth Rollins and CM Punk in a ring the very next night in a match because you had that, you caught it, you caught that lightning in a bottle. It was right there. But, things have kind of died out over the past couple of months, or almost a year now," Bully Ray said. [7:16 - 7:42]
