CM Punk could go after top champion, but not for the title, says WWE personality
CM Punk and Paul Heyman's "favor" angle has the WWE Universe buzzing. And it has only been over a week since The Best in the World joined forces with Roman Reigns inside WarGames at Survivor Series.
WWE analyst Sam Roberts has pointed to an interesting area the creative team can explore in the coming months. Major premium live events such as the Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber: Toronto stand between now and WrestleMania 41. Roberts noted that if the OTC wins back the Undisputed WWE Championship from Cody Rhodes within this time, then Heyman can grant Punk a shot at the belt.
On his podcast Notsam Wrestling, Sam Roberts explained why The Second City Saint would consider further helping Reigns. According to the WWE personality, Paul Heyman has no authority to grant anybody a world title shot. Except Roman Reigns. If the OTC is the champion, then The Wiseman can meddle:
"So maybe the idea is—well, CM Punk could win the Royal Rumble. Or CM Punk could win the Elimination Chamber. Or, if CM Punk can get the WWE Championship back on Roman Reigns, then Paul Heyman can get CM Punk into the match with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania. Because I don't see how Paul Heyman would have the power to get him into a WrestleMania main event involving anybody except Roman Reigns." [From 9:38 to 10:08]
Last week on WWE RAW, The Best in the World had a war of words with Seth Rollins, which ended with the two brawling. Jey Uso and Sami Zayn separated them. After yet another few minutes of bickering, this time with Zayn, The Visionary was booked in a match against the OG Bloodline member, which headlined the show.
Could CM Punk vs Roman Reigns be more than the WWE Title and a WrestleMania main event?
Former SmackDown General Manager Teddy Long feels reminded of Paul Heyman's "treacherous" nature. In the last decade, Heyman turned on The Second City Saint himself, which made Bill Apter wonder if The Wiseman would turn on Roman Reigns.
Speaking on Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Time Machine, Apter noted that perhaps Punk wanted to step into the ring with the OTC, who was WWE's golden boy even before the former AEW World Champion left in 2014.
"I think that CM Punk is going to tell Paul Heyman that he wants a match against Roman Reigns and to set it up. Because he wants to end it once and for all," Apter said. [11:22 onwards]
