CM Punk joined the OG Bloodline for major reason besides his connection to Paul Heyman, says WWE analyst
Former WWE Champion CM Punk officially joined the OG Bloodline's team for the faction's WarGames Match against the new Bloodline at the upcoming Survivor Series: WarGames PLE. While The Best in The World's connection to The Wiseman was seemingly the obvious reason for his decision to join forces with Roman Reigns and Co., WWE analyst Sam Roberts suggested another reason was also behind that step.
After nearly five months of absence, Paul Heyman returned to TV last night on SmackDown to announce that the OG Bloodline would have a fifth member on November 30. CM Punk then rushed to the ring to join Reigns' team as they brawled with Solo Sikoa's Bloodline.
The show ended with the OTC and The Best in The World having a face-off, during which the latter seemed to explain to Reigns that he was doing this for his former manager.
On his Notsam Wrestling podcast, Roberts pointed out that Punk being a Paul Heyman guy made sense for The Second City Saint to join forces with Roman Reigns and company. Meanwhile, he claimed the 46-year-old's decision to become part of the team after several other superstars declined to team up with the OG Bloodline was also because he was unaffected by Roman's "reign of terror" as The Tribal Chief.
"The thing that makes CM Punk somebody that makes more sense as a partner to that Bloodline than pretty much anybody else on the roster is that CM Punk wasn't in the WWE for Roman Reigns' reign of terror. CM Punk's first match on WWE television since leaving the WWE was Royal Rumble of this year," he said.
The 41-year-old added:
"CM Punk was in the WWE for the last January, February, and March—three months of Roman Reigns' title reign. He was unaffected in any shape or form by the [OG] Bloodline. By the way, for those three months, he was injured. He wasn't affected at all by the [OG] Bloodline; nil, none, whatsoever!" [11:43-12:31]
Sam Roberts recalled CM Punk's history with Roman Reigns in WWE
On the same edition of his Notsam Wrestling podcast, Sam Roberts pointed out that CM Punk last interacted with Roman Reigns when the OTC was still part of The Shield.
The RAW Talk host recalled The Shield initially debuting on the main roster as mercenaries for The Best in The World.
"Last time CM Punk and Roman Reigns interacted, Roman Reigns was in The Shield. And by the way, The Shield was brought in to protect CM Punk at first. The Shield has a history with CM Punk and Paul Heyman in the very beginning; don't forget that," he said. [12:50-13:06]
With both teams now completed, it will be interesting to see if the OG Bloodline emerges victorious against the new Bloodline in the upcoming Men's WarGames Match.
