CM Punk's heel move meant "nothing" at WWE Clash at the Castle, explains Hall of Famer (Exclusive)
CM Punk and Drew McIntyre's rivalry hit a milestone at WWE Clash at the Castle, as Punk cost the Scottish Warrior a massive win. Despite the clear heel move by the Second City Saint, a Hall of Famer noted that the distinction between heels and babyfaces did not apply in this particular feud.
After interfering in the match between Drew McIntyre and Damian Priest, CM Punk was grabbed by the challenger. However, a swift kick to Drew's groin left the latter incapacitated, allowing Punk to walk out of the ring calmly. Despite the low blow being a traditional heel move, Teddy Long has a different perspective.
Speaking on Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Time Machine hosted by Mac Davis, Teddy Long stated:
"It don't mean nothing, it's all about the win. I keep telling you, there is no heel or babyface no more. It's none of that. They got people that they dislike, and they got people that they like. But if I am talking about a strong heat, we don't have none of that right now. But we are gonna get it if they keep going in this direction but this is entertainment!" [6:00 onwards]
He further stated that Drew McIntyre seemingly quitting WWE did not mean much either.
"I see a lot of people do that. Mark Henry quit the company. AJ Styles quit the company, so what?" [7:00 onwards]
The WWE Hall of Famer also commented on the CM Punk and Drew McIntyre pinning spot
According to Teddy Long, the segment with Punk stopping the pin count to cost Drew McIntyre his win has been performed before.
Speaking on the same episode of The Wrestling Time Machine, Teddy recalled a match between Kofi Kingston and Drew McIntyre, back when the latter was rocking the "Chosen One" gimmick.
"We have seen that finish. I did that when Drew McIntyre was the Chosen One. You remember when we went to the pay-per-view and he was with Kofi and he had me... put on the referee shirt, and he made me the referee that night. I went down to count, everybody thought I was gonna count to 3 and I stopped, shook my head no no no. Remember that? Same thing." [5:09 onwards]
As of now, it remains to be seen how the feud between Punk and Drew will pan out in WWE.
