CM Punk's "real-life" story was eclipsed by a major flaw on RAW, says WWE veteran
CM Punk has been getting into some elite rivalries since making his WWE RAW return. The Best in the World recently kickstarted his rivalry with Seth Rollins, and a veteran pointed out some problems in his recent promo.
The latest edition of RAW saw the former WWE Champion appear in a backstage interview with the brand’s correspondent, Jackie Redmond. During the discussion, Punk revealed some interesting details about his real-life relationship with Seth Rollins.
In a recent edition of Busted Open After Dark, Tommy Dreamer broke down the interview. The veteran noted that The Best in the World revealed some eyebrow-raising information in the chat.
"CM Punk tells his version of his story about his real-life stuff with Seth Rollins. [Punk] talks about when he was a kid, 16 years old Seth Rollins asks CM Punk to train him," Dreamer recalled. "I don't know if this was the Chicago area indie or this was when CM Punk was, I believe, training at the Ring of Honor dojo in the Philadelphia area. I don't know this exact history, but I do timeline-wise.
He added that the part where he said he wanted to train Seth Rollins for free was a major factor that turned the mood of the interview around.
"Anyway, the first part, where it kind of raised my eyebrow a little bit, my Dreamer eyebrow, when he said he wanted to train him for free. That's a key point," the WWE veteran continued. "I'm like, 'Uh, alright.' And then he went about their history and I was like, 'Alright, well, that's his version.' I don't know if I'm a bigger fan of CM Punk because of that version." Dreamer noted that the former WWE Champion overall had "a bit of an attitude." It made him question his fandom of Punk in the current storyline.
Later in the night, The Visionary did set the record straight by noting that he approached Punk for guidance as a teenager. However, The Best in the World ghosted him and brought a bad name to the company following his 2014 exit from WWE.
Tommy Dreamer believes CM Punk could lose some WWE fans
The current storyline between The Best in the World and Seth Rollins is very interesting. However, Tommy Dreamer believes that the babyface in the rivalry could lose some followers if he reveals any more details.
He noted that there were a few things said that weren’t true, and that could negatively affect Punk’s standing on the RAW roster.
"I'm believing Seth Rollins," the WWE veteran began. "And even then, when they start chanting for CM Punk, he's like, 'Go ahead. Cheer for him,' and here's where I worry. Those 'CM Punk' chants weren't as loud as they were or are everytime Punk goes out there. And I'm like, 'Did I just mess with one of my babyfaces? One of my top drawing babyfaces.'"
Triple H may hold back on the promos and work more on the face-offs between the two WWE stars. It could make the rivalry more interesting if they get physical before their upcoming matches.
