CM Punk could turn heel for high-profile match at WrestleMania 41, WWE legend says
CM Punk and Seth Rollins amplified their rivalry this past Monday, and the fans appear to be heavily invested in it. Although so many had assumed CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins is a match that will be saved for WrestleMania 41, it has been made official for the January 6, 2025, episode of WWE RAW. Tommy Dreamer feels that at this point, the company does not care about whether The Straight Edge Superstar is a heel or babyface.
If he has to turn into a villain, then merchandise sales will drop. But it still won't stop Punk if that is the direction the wind is blowing. Furthermore, Dreamer also pointed to a possible showdown with Roman Reigns, in which case The Best in the World works better as a heel. Dreamer highlighted Punk's promo with Peter Rosenberg at Saturday Night's Main Event, stating that WWE is probably testing the waters with the 46-year-old turning heel.
Speaking on Busted Open After Dark, Tommy Dreamer looked past the flagship show's Netflix debut. He discussed CM Punk possibly headlining WrestleMania 41 next year opposite Roman Reigns. Perhaps bringing Paul Heyman to his side is the way things will go down:
"They're just leaning into which is cool. However, if your merch starts to go down if people are not liking you, or they just start booing you, then we got to turn you heel," Dreamer said. "Don't know if that side fits as well. If it does, cool. If I could go longer term booking, Roman, Tribal Chief, Head of the Table, all that stuff. CM Punk is owed a favor by Paul Heyman. And that favor is to be in the main event of WrestleMania," Dreamer said. [From 11:52 to 12:29]
CM Punk and Seth Rollins will not main event WrestleMania 41, Tommy Dreamer noted
While Tommy Dreamer does believe CM Punk is more than worthy of headlining The Show of Shows next year, he does not believe The Best in the World will be able to do so with Seth Rollins.
In the aforementioned podcast, Dreamer reckoned that if a title is on the line, then chances are slim for Punk vs. Rollins to headline WrestleMania 41. However, the former ECW Champion wants their feud to blow off on the grandest spectacle in sports entertainment:
"Do I think CM Punk deserves to finally get what he wants [WrestleMania main event]? 1000% I do. Built correctly, the Seth Rollins story could've been a main event of WrestleMania with no titles on the line. If there's a title on the line, I don't see it happening just because of where I see everybody being positioned," Dreamer said.
As seen in the video clip above, Punk and Rollins engaged in a wild brawl after a bit of back-and-forth trash talk to kick off Monday Night RAW.
