Cody Rhodes addresses comparisons to Homelander of 'The Boys'

Some members of the WWE Universe want to see Cody Rhodes turn into a Homelander-kind of heel following his run as champion. Rhodes has finally addressed the comparisons with the popular character portrayed by Anthony Starr in the TV series The Boys.

The topic of Homelander Cody has been discussed by people online over the years, particularly those who want to see The American Nightmare turn heel. Some even believe that Rhodes' ring gear is inspired by the polarizing TV character's attire.

In an interview on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, the Undisputed WWE Champion finally commented on the comparisons between him and Homelander. He explained that his attire was based on military uniforms. Moreover, Cody Rhodes is seemingly disinterested in embracing his dark side at the moment.

"With all the love I have for 'The Boys,' and [Antony Starr's] performance as Homelander—the entire cast—and their production is first class. (...) The robe is not based on it. The robe is based on military dress uniforms," Rhodes said.

The 39-year-old WWE Superstar added:

"I think the AEW run where people thought I [was] pretending to be a good guy but I'm actually a good guy, which maybe was what was happening—I think that's where it really became. 'He's gonna go full Homelander.' Truthfully, Homelander the character is a terrible human being."

The Boys is currently in its fourth season and was renewed for a fifth and final season, which will be released in late summer 2026. It is exclusively shown on Amazon Prime Video.

Cody Rhodes on possibly turning heel

Cody Rhodes is one of the most beloved WWE Superstars at the moment and has done a wonderful job representing the company.

Rhodes discussed the possibility of turning into a bad guy during an appearance on Rosenberg Wrestling in May 2024.

"With the time I have left contract-wise, I don't see it but again, never say never. Absolutes are the worst thing in sports entertainment and pro wrestling. But here's the tricky part, all this stuff about me usually gets people booed in the first place. Usually like there's [sic] some real old-head podcaster types, no disrespect to them, that they can't understand it. They can't get it," he said. [36:26 - 36:54]

The American Nightmare is currently embroiled in a feud with Solo Sikoa and The Bloodline. It has not been announced, but after getting pinned by Sikoa at Money in the Bank, Rhodes will likely defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against him at SummerSlam 2024.
