Cody Rhodes almost loses the Undisputed WWE Championship to top heel; saved by two former champions [Watch]
Cody Rhodes' reign as the Undisputed WWE Champion was in jeopardy last night as he almost lost the title to a top heel. However, The American Nightmare's friends helped him retain the gold in the end.
Cody Rhodes has been the top star in the global juggernaut for the last couple of years. The former AEW EVP often headlines the company's premium live events and house shows in addition to TV programming. The same was the case at last night's Supershow in Lakeland, Florida, where Cody defended his title against Solo Sikoa in a Bloodline Rules Match.
While Rhodes had the upper hand most of the match, Tama Tonga and Tonga attacked him to turn the tide in their leader's favor. The duo beat down The American Nightmare and placed Solo Sikoa over him. However, Randy Orton's music played just before the referee was about to count to three. The Legend Killer then came out, with Kevin Owens in tow, to take out the Bloodline duo, helping Cody Rhodes retain the Undisputed WWE Championship.

Ex-WWE host wants to see Randy Orton defeat Cody Rhodes
While Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton are currently best friends, many believe that The Legend Killer will eventually turn on his former protege to go after the Undisputed WWE Championship.
Ex-WWE host Matt Camp also shared the same belief as he stated on his podcast that he could see The Viper striking Rhodes when the time was right.
"You still have that underlying story of 'Well, Randy's trying to get to 16.' A certain former rival of his [John Cena] is at 16 and is on a retirement tour next year. Could that come into play? And I'm not saying Randy's gonna beat Gunther because I don't think it will happen. I do think Randy could beat Cody and I think Cody can win it back. I think that's in play because I, like many of you, would like to see a heel Randy Orton but I've talked about that plenty. We're not there yet," he said
The American Nightmare recently gave a title shot to Kevin Owens. While The Prizefighter was hesitant at first, he accepted the challenge after Nick Aldis talked about giving the opportunity to Roman Reigns instead.
