Cody Rhodes explains Roman Reigns' actions following legendary WWE return at SummerSlam: "He did not do that for me"

Cody Rhodes has explained why Roman Reigns helped him retain the Undisputed WWE Championship at SummerSlam 2024. He reiterated his relationship with The Original Tribal Chief after beating Solo Sikoa in a Bloodline Rules Match.

The American Nightmare was close to losing his title in the main event of SummerSlam when Reigns made his much-anticipated return. He immediately attacked his former Enforcer with a Superman Punch before hitting a Spear to help Rhodes get the win.

At the SummerSlam post-show press conference, the Undisputed WWE Champion was asked about why Reigns helped him against the new Bloodline. He knew that there were problems within the SmackDown faction, so it was all about that.

"I know I'm not his friend. He did not do that for me, but because of what is happening with The Bloodline and Solo. That is something to stay tuned for, probably on SmackDown in the sense of what happens with The Bloodline. The Bloodline has been the anchor of WWE for some time, and what happens next, not just with Solo and not just with Roman but Jacob Fatu, who is, as all we can see, is something unbelievable," Rhodes said. Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes did have a staredown after the match ended. They have headlined the past two WrestleManias, so they will likely face each other again for the Undisputed WWE Championship at some point.

Cody Rhodes open to trilogy with Roman Reigns

At the same post-show press conference, Cody Rhodes admitted that Roman Reigns deserved a rematch for the Undisputed WWE Championship. Rhodes also felt "scared" since he knew what Reigns and The Bloodline were capable of.

Nevertheless, Rhodes was open for a trilogy with The Original Tribal Chief:

"Certainly, Roman Reigns is entitled to, not just a rematch, I mean Roman Reigns held this title for so long. That match, it has to happen. It is one of those where to a degree, you are not supposed to say this when you're a babyface, but it is scary. I have been in there twice and he hits hard. The idea of that is there. I don't know if anyone saw but I was tapping the title like this [three fingers on the title]. Because I know there is a third one somewhere down the line," Rhodes said. A trilogy between Rhodes and Reigns should be in the cards given that they have one win each over the other. Reigns prevailed at WrestleMania 39, while Rhodes triumphed at WrestleMania 40. But with the interferences in both matches, the two legendary stars likely deserve a real one-on-one bout on a massive show.
