Cody Rhodes facing returning WWE legend for the first time in a decade is possible, says analyst
Cody Rhodes is currently involved in a program with The Bloodline on WWE SmackDown. Nevertheless, a WWE Analyst believes he could square off against a returning legend.
The legend in question is none other than John Cena. The Leader of the Cenation surprisingly appeared at Money in the Bank to announce his intention to retire in 2025. On his Notsam Wrestling podcast, analyst Sam Roberts suggested a few potential opponents for the 47-year-old in his final run, including The Rock, CM Punk, and Gunther.
Roberts also claimed Cena could fight his longtime rival and real-life friend Randy Orton or even the current Undisputed WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes. The Leader of the Cenation last squared off against The American Nightmare in 2015 when the latter played the gimmick of Stardust. Their United States Championship match ended in Cena's victory:
"I mean, we could get another Cena/Orton. This version of Randy Orton versus this version of John Cena? Cena versus Cody, Homelander versus Homelander," he said. [26:34 - 26:46]
Sam Roberts wants John Cena to have another world title run in WWE
The Leader of the Cenation is tied with The Nature Boy Ric Flair for most World Championship reigns recognized by the Stamford-based company. If John Cena wins the 2025 Men's Royal Rumble match, he will earn a shot to capture his 17th world title.
On his Notsam Wrestling podcast, Sam Roberts expressed his desire to see Cena break the record and have one final World Championship run before retiring:
"I wonder, over the course of a year, is it outlandish to say that John Cena could get another championship? I would love to see it. (...) Yeah, I mean, I think there's potential championship," he said.
Roberts also proposed the idea of having Cena go head-to-head with Dominik Mysterio. He surprisingly claimed that the Leader of the Cenation should lose to Dirty Dom. It will be interesting to see if that happens.
