Cody Rhodes finally addresses 'scary' rematch with legendary former WWE Champion after major SummerSlam victory

Cody Rhodes has admitted to being scared about a potential rematch with a legendary superstar for the Undisputed WWE Championship. Rhodes acknowledged after SummerSlam 2024 that a trilogy matchup against Roman Reigns is inevitable.

In the main event of SummerSlam, Reigns returned to take out Solo Sikoa and helped Rhodes retain his championship. The rivals shared an intense look as The Tribal Chief walked back, while The American Nightmare celebrated his victory.

Rhodes addressed a potential third match versus Reigns, which is an intriguing prospect given that they have one win each. The 39-year-old champion also admitted to being "scared" since he knew what his rival could do in the ring.

"Certainly, Roman Reigns is entitled to, not just a rematch, I mean Roman Reigns held this title for so long. That match, it has to happen. It is one of those where to a degree, you are not supposed to say this when you're a babyface, but it is scary. I have been in there twice and he hits hard. The idea of that is there. I don't know if anyone saw but I was tapping the title like this [three fingers on the title]. Because I know there is a third one somewhere down the line," Rhodes said. [41:53 - 42:32]

This past Saturday, Roman Reigns returned after a four-month hiatus following his loss to Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40. Reigns immediately went after Solo Sikoa, who anointed himself as The Tribal Chief in the former Undisputed WWE Champion's absence.

Cody Rhodes' dog Pharaoh to retire from WWE road travel

During the SummerSlam post-show press conference, Cody Rhodes confirmed the retirement of his dog Pharaoh from traveling with him for WWE shows. The 13-year-old husky has been with him through the ups and downs, but it's time for him to enjoy staying home and being Liberty Iris' companion.

"You know, Pharaoh's 13 years old. For those who don't know, Pharaoh's my husky, my dog. He's 13 years old. He's thriving, he's doing great, but the pack is at home now. He's more Libby's dog than he is my dog anymore. (...) And I don't want to keep dragging him on the road if he just wants to be home. So we had a fun time here. Lots of treats," Rhodes said. Cody Rhodes wouldn't be alone on the road since he already has another dog with him named Yeti Pinkerton, whom the champion called an "enhancement dog," or in pro wrestling terms, a jobber.
