Cody Rhodes makes history at WWE Crown Jewel

Cody Rhodes just picked up a major win at WWE Crown Jewel. The American Nightmare created history in the process.

Ever since his return to WWE, Rhodes has been pushed to the moon. He won the Royal Rumble 2023 and main evented WrestleMania 39. If that wasn't enough, he won the 'Rumble in 2024 as well and then finished his story when he won the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40.

Since then, Cody Rhodes has proven himself to be a fighting champion who isn't afraid to defend his title against anyone. However, he was set to face his toughest opponent yet in Gunther at WWE Crown Jewel.

This match came to be after Triple H announced that the World Heavyweight Champion and the Undisputed WWE Champion would face each other to determine the first-ever Crown Jewel Champion.

During the clash, Gunther gave it his all and dominated most of the match. He even came close to winning when he nearly choked out Cody with the sleeper hold but Cody Rhodes recovered. The Ring General also hit a powerbomb on The American Nightmare but the Undisputed Champion still kicked out.

During the closing moments of the match, Rhodes went for the Cody Cutter but Gunther caught him and locked him in the sleeper hold. The American Nightmare then used his momentum to roll back and he pinned The Ring General to become the first-ever Crown Jewel Champion, thereby making history.

Following the match, Gunther shook Cody Rhodes' hands as a sign of respect before Triple H presented the title to the latter.
