Cody Rhodes may drop Undisputed Title to 7-time WWE champion at Crown Jewel, says ex-host; not Roman Reigns or Randy Orton
Cody Rhodes will not defend his Undisputed WWE Championship tonight at Bad Blood. However, a former WWE host believes The American Nightmare could lose the title at the following premium live event, Crown Jewel.
Speaking on his The Wrestling Matt podcast, former RAW Talk host Matt Camp suggested The Bloodline could end up costing Rhodes his title at Crown Jewel. Camp proposed a scenario in which Drew McIntyre loses to CM Punk at Bad Blood and moves to SmackDown. The seven-time champion would then challenge The American Nightmare to an Undisputed WWE Championship match, with Camp pointing out that he is one of the few to have pinned him. As the two potentially square off at Crown Jewel, The Bloodline could interfere to help McIntyre end Rhodes' title reign:
"Punk wins, cool. Drew ends up on SmackDown. Drew makes the claim Scott just said, he's the last person to pin Cody [Solo Sikoa pinned Rhodes at Money in the Bank]. Cody and Roman win. They got Kevin and Randy by their side but Cody's like, 'Nope, I'm done. It's over.' Drew gets his title match with Cody at Crown Jewel. Drew wins because The Bloodline gets involved," he said.
The former WWE host pointed out that Rhodes could then argue with Kevin Owens, Randy Orton, and Reigns to join forces against their common enemy, The Bloodline, ahead of Survivor Series:
"And then Cody goes, 'Scr*w this, they gotta get taken out. No, absolutely not. I'm not taking a step further. I'm not doing a damn thing else until we eradicate The Bloodline.' Which then gives him reason to galvanize the troops, Roman, Randy, Kevin, all on the same side. 'None of us can move forward in our careers with these guys still around.' (...) And imagine the idea of the current version of The Bloodline costing Cody the WWE Championship and Drew McIntyre is the one who benefits from it." [52:06 - 53:48]
Rhodes has held the championship since WrestleMania when he defeated Roman Reigns on night two. He has since defended it against multiple superstars, including AJ Styles, Kevin Owens, and Solo Sikoa. The American Nightmare is currently involved in a feud with Sikoa's Bloodline. He will unexpectedly team up with his former rival, Reigns, to fight the self-proclaimed Tribal Chief and his personal enforcer, Jacob Fatu, tonight at Bad Blood.
WWE reportedly has other plans for Cody Rhodes at Crown Jewel
While Cody Rhodes lost to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39, he defeated The Original Tribal Chief earlier this year at the Showcase of the Immortals. Many now expect the two superstars to go head-to-head for a third time. Since Reigns' return, he has been vocal about his intention to get back "his" Undisputed WWE Championship.
According to a recent report by Xero News, the Stamford-based company plans to have The Original Tribal Chief and The American Nightmare battle for a third time next month at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia.
Rhodes recently addressed his relationship with Reigns, stating that they create magic when they stand across the ring from each other. It would be interesting to see if they will indeed have a third match soon.
