Cody Rhodes reflects on fans siding with him over CM Punk at major WWE event
Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes has reflected on a time the fans sided with him over CM Punk. The American Nightmare will be defending his title against The Bloodline's Solo Sikoa at WWE SummerSlam on August 3.
Earlier this year, Cody Rhodes eliminated CM Punk to win the Men's Royal Rumble match and went on to dethrone Roman Reigns to become the new Undisputed WWE Champion at WrestleMania XL.
Speaking on the first episode of What Do You Wanna Talk About?, Rhodes stated that the fans got behind him while he was battling Punk in the Men's Royal Rumble match, and it made him feel like they were going in the right direction.
"I had been pitted against (CM) Punk on the go up towards the (Royal) Rumble and then ultimately, to WrestleMania, and then Punk is as hot as he’s ever been, and Punk is beloved. But in the match, there was this general 50-50-ish that slowly went to 60-40, slowly went to 70-30 in my favor, and I thought, oh, okay. This is the way. We’re all in on this together," he said. CM Punk comments on Cody Rhodes becoming Undisputed WWE Champion
WWE RAW star CM Punk sent a warning to Cody Rhodes following his victory over Roman Reigns at WrestleMania XL.
Speaking on ESPN following The Show of Shows earlier this year, the Second City Saint spoke about Rhodes winning the title and finishing his story. Punk noted that everyone saw how hard it was for Cody Rhodes to win the title and claimed that it would be even more difficult to stay on top.
"Listen, a black belt is a white belt that didn't quit, right? He just earned his black belt. And unlike his finishing maneuver, we are no longer at a crossroads; I think the path is clear to possibly the Cody Rhodes era. But, I will warn him. It is much harder to stay on top than it is to get there. We all saw how hard it was for him to get there. There are a lot of people gunning for him." [4:24 onwards]

CM Punk has not wrestled a match since WWE Royal Rumble 2024 but has made Drew McIntyre's life miserable in the meantime. The 45-year-old cost The Scottish Warrior his Money in the Bank cash-in opportunity last weekend at the Premium Live Event in Toronto, Canada.
