Cody Rhodes says he wasn't cool with "nonsense" WWE booking decision
Cody Rhodes has made a blunt comment about a major WWE booking decision that was taken earlier this year. The decision supposedly saw The Rock replacing him in the main event of WrestleMania XL.
After Cody Rhodes won the 2024 Men's Royal Rumble Match, fans were horrified to see The Rock make a return and take his main event spot. This led to massive backlash on social media and WWE ended up giving Cody his spot back.
In an interview with The Pivot Podcast, The American Nightmare revealed that he saw two podcasters talk about how he would be fine with The Rock taking his spot. He further said that he wasn't cool with the booking decision.
"A lot of people said, 'He's The Rock. He can do whatever he wants.' I saw a podcast with two wrestling heads talking and they said, 'I'm sure Cody is fine stepping aside for WrestleMania and doing it later in the year.' In my mind, I'm thinking, 'That's insane.' That's the Super Bowl of what we do. The last day of WrestleMania, the last match, it's our literal Super Bowl. The idea that somebody thought I would be cool with it. They don't know me. That's nonsense. I worked my whole life for this. Rock should know I wouldn't be cool with it. Maybe that's an understanding him and I have. He found out, I'm not cool with it." [H/T - Fightful]
Cody Rhodes finally finished the story at 'Mania
The video of The Rock taking Cody's spot ended up becoming the most-disliked WWE clip on its YouTube channel. At the WrestleMania XL Kickoff show, Cody came out and took his spot back. The Rock slapped him after he insulted his family, and thus a heated feud kicked off. The Great One later confronted Triple H and asked him to take care of Rhodes.
At WrestleMania XL Night One, The Rock and Roman Reigns defeated Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins in a tag team match. On Night Two, Cody finally defeated The Tribal Chief and won the Undisputed WWE Universal Title for the first time.
