Cody Rhodes shares awkward meeting with former WWE star and Tony Khan
Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes has detailed a hilariously awkward meeting his friend had with AEW president Tony Khan. Rhodes successfully defended his title last night in an I Quit match against AJ Styles at Clash at the Castle.
Cody Rhodes was once an EVP in All Elite Wrestling but left the promotion to return to WWE at WrestleMania 38. The American Nightmare recently appeared on Brian Myers' (formerly known as Curt Hawkins) and Matt Cardona's (Zack Ryder) The Major Wrestling Figure podcast and shared a humorous story. Cody revealed that he set up a meeting between Cardona and Tony Khan but it did not go as intended.
Rhodes noted that Cardona cut off Khan just as he started speaking and said he didn't want to come to AEW just to be "Cody's friend." The American Nightmare noted he had pitched the Indy God to come to the promotion as his friend and was shocked at the veteran's comment.
"This is how the conversation opened up, and if I could’ve taken a friggin’ back bump on the cement, I would’ve taken a back bump, it was so shocking. Tony starts talking, and before long, Matt goes, 'Well, let me stop you right there.' So he’s already got a bullish, fortune favors the bold approach to this," Cody explained. "He goes, 'Let me stop you right there. I want you to know that I don’t want to be here to be 'Cody’s friend. I want you to know that I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing a Nightmare Family jacket.' This is happening in real time to me, and this is the guy that I suggested come in as my friend!" he said. [H/T: WrestleZone]
Vince Russo doesn't believe Cody Rhodes would benefit from a manager in WWE
Former WWE writer Vince Russo has shared his thoughts on Cody Rhodes possibly having Arn Anderson as his manager in the company.
Rhodes was recently a guest on Busted Open Radio and spoke about his time with Arn Anderson as his manager in All Elite Wrestling. He hinted that he may need a manager in WWE, but Vince Russo disagrees. Speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Writing with Russo show, the veteran stated that Anderson would bring nothing to the champion's presentation on SmackDown.
"I just don't think, I mean no offense whatsoever, I just don't think Arn Anderson would mean anything. You got a totally different fan base today. I don't think he would mean anything." [From 7:03 onwards]
