Rhodes was in action this past Friday night on WWE SmackDown. He teamed up with Jimmy Uso to battle Tama Tonga and Jacob Fatu in a tag team match. Kevin Owens showed up during the bout, and Rhodes chased him backstage.

Fatu and Tonga were able to capitalize on the distraction and picked up the pinfall victory. Rhodes is scheduled to defend the title against Owens in a Ladder match at WWE Royal Rumble 2025 next month.

Bill Apter reacts to Cody Rhodes' match on WWE SmackDown

Legendary wrestling journalist Bill Apter recently shared his thoughts on Kevin Owens interfering in Cody Rhodes' match this past Friday night on SmackDown.

Speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Smack Talk podcast, Apter noted that Owens interfering was predictable and claimed that the storyline was "getting a little out of hand." The veteran added that he would have preferred if Owens hadn't gotten involved in the main event on the blue brand.

"Kevin Owens disrupting everything that Cody Rhodes is involved with is getting a little out of hand now. Anytime Cody comes in, you know Kevin Owens is gonna be there. I kinda didn't want to see him at that particular point. I would have liked them to have just let it alone with the challenge, accept it then go into the match, whatever it is." [From 08:04 onwards]

Cody Rhodes successfully defended the title against Owens at Saturday Night's Main Event last month. However, The Prizefighter brutally attacked the champion following the bell and hit him with a Piledriver in the middle of the ring. KO also got into a shoving match with WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H following the heinous attack.
