Cody Rhodes shuts down potential next title defense against massive name following WWE Bash in Berlin
Cody Rhodes successfully defended the Undisputed WWE Championship against Kevin Owens in a highly competitive match which opened WWE Bash in Berlin Saturday night. However, there was no heel turn from The Prizefighter, although it was teased during the bout.
Since The American Nightmare's coronation at WWE WrestleMania XL—as a matter of fact, way before that, from the point he returned to WWE in 2022—a showdown between him and his mentor Randy Orton is something fans have been salivating over.
During the Bash in Berlin post-show press conference, Cody Rhodes was asked about a future program with The Legend Killer when the topic of Owens' heel turn was brought up.
In the weeks heading into SummerSlam, Orton assured his allegiance to The American Nightmare, but fans know better. Many had speculated about a potential heel turn for The Viper in order to go after the Undisputed WWE Championship.
Speaking to the media, Rhodes addressed the high-profile nature of this program and confirmed that there is no plan for the two to lock horns in the near future:
"In terms of him [Randy Orton] eyeing the title, I have seen a lot of rumblings," Cody Rhodes began. "You feel like people want to see that match. It's a very very different match that—when I first showed up to Monday Night RAW, the first person I wrestled was actually Randy Orton—gosh, I don't want to give you a bad answer."
Cody Rhodes thought about it for a second before revealing that a lot has to happen prior to the highly anticipated showdown taking place:
"A lot would have to happen for that match to take place. That's a real relationship, and friendship, and the mentor and the student, but it is certainly not something I would back down from. [...] If it happens, that's a lot of drama. As The Bloodline fans like to say, the 'cinema', it's a lot of 'cinema'. But right now, no plans for it."
Randy Orton headlined Bash in Berlin against World Heavyweight Champion Gunther in a losing effort, despite the bout going back and forth with many moments in favor of the 14-time World Champion. Post-match, The Ring General seemingly turned face for the first time in his career.
Cody Rhodes vs. Solo Sikoa at WWE Bad Blood on October 5?
Now that Bash in Berlin is in the rearview mirror, it appears The American Nightmare will once again have to fend off The Bloodline as Solo Sikoa has announced his intentions to go after the winner of the title match.
Sikoa and clan have seemingly taken out Roman Reigns, thanks in large part to Jacob Fatu. Reigns had returned at SummerSlam to cost the new Tribal Chief his match against Cody Rhodes for the latter's belt.
