Cody Rhodes to turn heel after 6 years and align with current Bloodline member in a major twist suggested by WWE veteran

Cody Rhodes has been a babyface throughout his second stint with WWE. However, Bully Ray believes that the American Nightmare turning heel eventually is inevitable.

Rhodes returned to the global juggernaut in 2022 after making a name for himself around the world. The 38-year-old has been insurmountably over with fans since then. He became the first man in four years to defeat Roman Reigns in a singles match, as he ended The Tribal Chief's historic title run of 1,316 days.

The American Nightmare looks set to be the face of the company as it embarks upon a new era under the creative guidance of Triple H. Many have been touting him as the next John Cena given his popularity as a babyface. However, Bully Ray believes that it is only a matter of time before the former AEW EVP turns heel.

The veteran also believes that Cody Rhodes will align with Paul Heyman down the line. Ray drew comparisons with the popular movie franchise Star Wars in which Anakin embraced his villainous side for multiple reasons.

Bully Ray believes Cody Rhodes should not face popular WWE Superstar

Cody Rhodes will defend his Undisputed WWE Championship at Backlash, with one of AJ Styles or LA Knight facing him at the company's upcoming premium live event in France.

While the opponent is not fixed yet, Bully Ray stressed that the American Nightmare should ideally not face LA Knight due to the latter's popularity. He also stressed on the fact that the Stamford-based promotion is lacking heels that could go toe to toe with Rhodes at present.

"I think you're potentially cutting the audience. I'm not going to say in half. But what if ¾'s of the place cheers for Cody, but ¼ of the place cheers for LA Knight? Cody needs to have his back against the wall at all times. Cody is the type of champion that needs to be fighting underneath at all times. And my concern is that they don't have the type of heels that can keep the pressure on him, like Brock Lesnar did. Or Cody having to overcome, like the torn pec muscle. Or what Roman, or the beatdown that Rock gave him in the rain in Chicago with the blood," he said.

Cody Rhodes also defended his title at the WWE live event in Birmingham on Friday. The American Nightmare defeated Shinsuke Nakamura.
