Cody Rhodes vs. Kevin Owens at Bash in Berlin is a "cold match," says WWE legend
Cody Rhodes surprised fans on WWE SmackDown last week when he handpicked Kevin Owens as his next challenger. Their bout was made official by the blue brand's sheriff Nick Aldis for Bash in Berlin on August 31.
With no true feud between the two babyfaces, some industry veterans and fans alike have slammed the way creative presented this title match. WWE Hall of Famer Booker T insisted people enjoy the ride instead of looking too far ahead.
Speaking on The Hall of Fame, Booker admitted it is a "cold match," but he also felt that sometimes it needs to be that way in order to develop into something more substantial. He touched upon the possibility of Owens turning heel, but also added that it is a valid decision WWE made even if the two stalwarts simply put on a show in Germany and move on:
"Sometimes you have to go in cold to be able to create an angle," Booker said. "This might be the beginning of something they're getting ready to start, or it might just be a cold match where K.O. is getting a shot at the title. We don't know if he's going to turn on Cody Rhodes or anything like that. [...] I'm not gonna look too far into it before that actually happens. I think that's where we get caught up a little bit sometimes." [H/T: Wrestling Inc.]
The American Nightmare found himself in a similar situation earlier this year with AJ Styles, but their rivalry intensified eventually.
Kevin Owens has regrets over WWE Universal Championship reign, wants to win world title again
Kevin Owens last held a world title between 2016 to early 2017, with that being his sole reign in World Wrestling Entertainment. Owens believes he won the Universal Championship because Finn Bálor got injured immediately after becoming the inaugural titleholder, among other reasons.
Looking back at his 188-day reign, The Prizefighter expressed disappointment that he never got to really savor the moment. When the producer of his Chronicle episode aired on the WWE Network asked him whether it matters to win a world title again, he had this to say:
"It matters. For me, because my first Universal title run I really didn't enjoy it as much as I should have. [...] was so worried about trying to make it great, which is a good worry to have, it's a worry anybody should have. I think it was also a curse because I just couldn't keep things in perspective."
Meanwhile, Cody Rhodes is going strong as Undisputed WWE Champion. He will cross 150 days if he retains against The Prizefighter. Be that as it may, some veterans believe he is not the biggest star the company has today.
