Cody Rhodes wants to undergo a massive character change in WWE; his promos reflect it, says veteran

Cody Rhodes is the ultimate babyface in WWE today. However, a wrestling veteran thinks The American Nightmare wants to undergo a massive character change eventually.

While Rhodes is arguably the biggest babyface in the Stamford-based company, he recently acknowledged that his appearance and attitude are usually linked to heel characters. On his Gigantic Pop podcast, wrestling veteran Matt Morgan pointed out that The American Nightmare's promos and his use of "big words" could put fans off. He stated that that happened in AEW but it did not in WWE for some reason.

The TNA legend claimed the 39-year-old would remain untouchable in WWE until he starts purposely shifting towards being a villain. He said that he believes Rhodes does want to turn heel eventually.

"Those promos can hurt him from time to time but not in WWE. I feel he's untouchable there until he starts doing it on purpose and goes overboard where he's purposely trying to become heel. And I do feel Cody wants to become heel eventually. I do," he said. [31:58 - 32:15]

Another WWE veteran wants Cody Rhodes' character to become edgier

On the Behind The Turnbuckle: The War Room podcast, wrestling veteran Jonathan Coachman addressed Cody Rhodes' current character in the Stamford-based company.

The former interim RAW General Manager suggested that The American Nightmare may not turn heel. However, his character should become edgier and vengeful. He claimed such a shift in his gimmick would be more appealing to the younger audience.

"Here's the deal. Do you remember in 1999, Tommy, when The Rock became the coolest heel ever? And we're not even talking about Cody becoming a heel. We're talking about a vengeful Cody Rhodes. So, when a fan looks at Cody Rhodes, yes, he can still be that babyface, Tommy. But yet when you come in, do you not like if you're eight, nine, thirteen, fourteen-year-old kid a bad**s? Somebody that says, 'You know what? I've had enough. I'm taking you out. I'm looking you in the eye and I'm going toe-to-toe' just like what he did with AJ Styles," he said.
