Cody Rhodes and WWE reportedly sued over a major trademark
WWE, Cody Rhodes, and the company's merchandising partner, Fanatics, have reportedly been sued by Wesley Eisold over the "American Nightmare" trademark.
Eisold is an American musician and poet. He records music under the name, Cold Cave and is a member of the hardcore punk band, American Nightmare. In 2016, the 45-year-old registered a trademark for the name 'American Nightmare.'
According to POST Wrestling, Eisold has filed a lawsuit against Rhodes, WWE, and Fanatics. The reigning Undisputed WWE Champion was allowed to use the term 'American Nightmare' on his merchandise, under specific conditions.
Since departing WWE in 2016, Rhodes started using the 'American Nightmare' nickname. During his days in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, Ring of Honor, and All Elite Wrestling, he was addressed under the same nickname and continued this tradition after re-signing with WWE.
Cody Rhodes will appear on this week's WWE SmackDown
Cody Rhodes has been confirmed to appear on the upcoming edition of WWE SmackDown. He is set to resume his feud with Solo Sikoa, who seems to be next in line for a rematch against The American Nightmare.
At the SummerSlam Premium Live Event, Sikoa failed to win the Undisputed WWE Championship, courtesy of the returning Roman Reigns. The OTC's interference led to Rhodes successfully defending his title against the new Tribal Chief.
At Bash In Berlin, Rhodes successfully defended the Undisputed WWE Championship in a hard-fought battle against Kevin Owens. Leading up to the match, Sikoa declared his intentions to challenge the winner of the title match.
Rhodes and Sikoa will cross paths on SmackDown and it remains to be seen if WWE decides to book a rematch between the two superstars. With Bad Blood Premium Live Event right around the corner, a rematch between the two could be announced for the show.
Rhodes won the championship at WrestleMania XL defeating Roman Reigns in a Bloodline Rules Match.
