Current champion winning the newly introduced Women's United States Title is possible, says WWE analyst Sam Roberts
SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis recently introduced the Women's United States Championship. Meanwhile, WWE analyst Sam Roberts suggested a current titleholder could become the inaugural champion.
Candice LeRae signed with the Stamford-based company nearly seven years ago. Before joining the main roster, the 39-year-old held the NXT Women's Tag Team Championship once. A few weeks ago, The Poixon Pixie captured her second title in her WWE career, becoming the inaugural Women's Speed Champion. Sam Roberts recently proposed having Johnny Gargano's wife add another title to her resume.
On his Notsam Wrestling podcast, the 41-year-old disclosed his desire to see LeRae become the inaugural Women's United States Champion. Meanwhile, he pointed out that the Stamford-based company had many legitimate contenders for the newly introduced title.
"I think for me, somebody that I'd like to see maybe be the first Women's United States Champion is Candice LeRae. I think we've seen more and more out of Candice, and I think that I'd like to see that rocket get put on the back of Candice LeRae," he said.
Roberts added:
"Now, look, there's a lot of great candidates. I think Michin would be awesome as the first champion. I think Chelsea Green would be amazing as the first champion. But for me, I think my pick would be Candice LeRae." [49:58-50:27]
Ex-WWE head writer isn't a fan of Candice LeRae
On a recent edition of BroDown on Backstage Pass, former WWE head writer Vince Russo revealed how he felt about current Women's Speed Champion Candice LeRae.
The wrestling veteran claimed the 39-year-old was a "good helping hand" but not a star.
"[Candice LeRae]'s not a star. She's a good little hand, but she's not a star, and I'm just a firm believer that stars should be on television," he said.
LeRae is currently on a three-match losing streak (including two singles matches) on SmackDown. It will be interesting to see if she breaks the unwanted streak in the coming days.
