Current "Triple H Guys" hint at reviving forgotten WWE era for major match
Friday's WWE SmackDown saw the blue brand roar out of SummerSlam with major momentum on the road to Bash in Berlin. One group of superstars wants to take things back to another era in preparation for The Bloodline, and it seems the pitch is generating buzz.
DIY and The Street Profits are currently chasing the WWE Tag Team Championship. Thanks to interference by the other members of the faction, The Bloodline's Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga dethroned Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa of the titles on August 2. A #1 contender's tournament began on SmackDown last week, with Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins of The Profits defeating A-Town Down Under, while DIY defeated Pretty Deadly.
Gargano and Ciampa will now face Ford and Dawkins on SmackDown, with the winners earning a shot at The Bloodline's titles.
Despite each team having held the NXT Tag Team Championship on one occasion each, next week's SmackDown will mark their first-ever WWE TV match. DIY just appeared on SmackDown LowDown and The Triple H Guys hyped up next Friday's showdown. Gargano told Byron Saxton about wanting payback for how The Bloodline embarrassed him last Friday in front of his hometown, on what was to be the best night of his life.
"That changes you, that makes you a different person. The Bloodline have something that belongs to us. Our names are still on the titles. That is our property. Tonight, I made a promise. I made a promise to everyone that I am go-- No, no... We are going to do whatever it takes to get our property back," Johnny Gargano said.
Ciampa pointed to how the two teams have ties to the NXT tag team division and reminded everyone how this match will happen in Orlando, home of NXT. Ciampa challenged The Profits to take things back to the black-and-gold era.
"We've known them guys for over a decade now. I knew Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford before The Street Profits were even a thing, and this is first-time-ever, for the #1 contendership for our WWE Tag Team Titles, but you know what's the sweetest part about it all? It's in Orlando, Florida, where The Profits and DIY made a name for ourselves in the WWE. That hits different, and boys, Profits, we don't need to tell you; you already know. Next week, let's do our thing, black and gold style, for the first time," Tommaso Ciampa said. [H/T - Fightful]
DIY and The Street Profits have only shared the ring on one other occasion, and SmackDown will mark their first-ever televised match. DIY defeated The Profits on October 15, 2016, at a non-televised NXT event in Winter Haven, Florida.
