Current WWE champion reveals new era in special message to Shawn Michaels
A new era in WWE is upon us. Today is special for Shawn Michaels, and a current title holder specifically picked this day to make a bold declaration. The top star has riled the WWE Universe up with his definitive statement.
Ethan Page is the current NXT Champion. The veteran of 18 years made his surprise debut in late May, and his first match was a failed shot at the NXT Championship. After a brief Battle Royal appearance and a win over Je'Von Evans, Page won gold in his fourth match for the company, defeating Evans, Shawn Spears, and former champion, Trick Williams at Heatwave, earlier this month in front of his home crowd.
The Heartbreak Kid is celebrating his 59th birthday today. All Ego took to Instagram to wish the World Wrestling Entertainment's Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative, who also oversees NXT. Page declared this to be The Era of Ego, and shared a backstage photo with Michaels.
"Happy Birthday @shawnmichaels. I gift you the 'Era of Ego' in #WWENXT. The @WWE Universe can thank you for sharing your amazing birthday gift with the world. So generous 😄👈," Ethan Page wrote with the photo below.

Shawn Michaels praises WWE star ahead of rematch
Trick Williams is focused on regaining the NXT Championship from Ethan Page after losing it at Heatwave. The rematch is expected for The Great American Bash on Tuesday, July 30, and Tuesday, August 6, or perhaps the No Mercy PLE on Sunday, September 1.
Shawn Michaels had major praise for The Anointed One this week, revealing his main roster status, and making a bold prediction for his future. WWE's Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative said Williams was amazing to work with, and was getting better every day.
The NXT boss also talked about how Williams was like his longtime friend and rival, Scott Hall fka Razor Ramon. Michaels said this was the first time someone compared Williams and Hall.
Williams did not appear live on last week's NXT but declared in a pre-taped segment that he wants his rematch with Page. The rivalry is set to continue on this week's show.
