Curtis Axel explains his real-life heat with former WWE star
Curtis Axel wrestled for WWE between 2007 and 2020 before returning in 2022 for a three-month part-time stint as a producer. In a recent interview, the 45-year-old gave his take on Konnan's criticism of him several years ago.
Former WWE star Konnan has mentioned many times over the last decade that Axel lacks charisma. In 2015, the one-time Intercontinental Champion responded on X/Twitter by saying Konnan was "washed-up." He also revealed that his late father, WWE Hall of Famer Mr. Perfect, "hated" losing against the Cuban.
On Monte and The Pharaoh, Axel confirmed he stands by everything he said about his father's former opponent:
"This dude said I was not entertaining. I don't even know what he said. He just tweeted I was not entertaining, I was boring, whatever, not over, whatever. I tweeted him back saying, 'Did you blow yourself up writing that tweet? Because I know you blew yourself up wrestling my dad. You've never been s**t.' So me and him got into it for a second, but that was years ago. But he's a piece of s**t, I don't care about him." [1:13:15 – 1:13:50]
Konnan has worked for several wrestling promotions, including AAA, AEW, MLW, TNA, and WCW. He appeared in WWE for a short spell in 1992 and inducted Rey Mysterio into the Hall of Fame in 2023.
Curtis Axel calls Konnan a "fat slob"
In the 1990s, Mr. Perfect faced Konnan several times in WCW. In their final televised singles match against each other, Curtis Axel's father defeated his former rival in three minutes on the July 8, 1999, episode of WCW Thunder.
Reflecting on Konnan's career, Axel made it clear he never rated the veteran wrestler's in-ring ability:
"He's a fat slob, man. He never worked good matches. You ever see him in a heavyweight match? He talked s**t to me, so I sent him something with my IC title in my hand like this [posing], 'What's up?!'" [1:13:54 – 1:14:23]
Axel also opened up about possibly returning to WWE to feud with a top star 11 years after their last encounter.
