Damian Priest defeats legendary 23-time Champion after SmackDown goes off the air
Damian Priest put his World Heavyweight Championship on the line after SmackDown went off the air and managed to defend his title against a 23-time Champion.
Although a mainstay of Monday Night RAW, it's not uncommon for RAW Superstars to appear on SmackDown for post-show dark matches. Normally, dark matches are meant to send the crowd home happy with babyfaces getting the last laugh. In the first dark match of the night, Awesome Truth defeated The Judgment Day.
The second dark match saw World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest successfully defending his title against legendary 23-time champion Kofi Kingston. Kingston is a former WWE Champion, four-time Intercontinental Champion, three-time US Champion, and a 14-time tag team champion, along with winning the tag team title in NXT.
Damian Priest seems to be surpassing the expectations fans had for him as World Heavyweight Champion. Considering that Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre were the main men in the World Title picture, many brushed The Archer of Infamy aside.
This past week on RAW, the World Heavyweight Champion demolished Drew McIntyre on the mic, earning him a lot of praise from fans online, many of whom felt he would do well as a babyface champion.
Either way, a collision course between Priest and McIntyre seems inevitable, whether it's in Jeddah or next month in Glasgow, Scotland, at Clash at the Castle.
