Damian Priest finally breaks silence regarding major botch at WWE Money in the Bank
Reigning World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest has finally opened up about a major botch at the recent Money in the Bank Premium Live Event. The Archer of Infamy defended his title against Seth Rollins in a singles match, which later became a Triple Threat Match after Drew McIntyre cashed in his briefcase.
However, before McIntyre cashed in his MITB briefcase, The Visionary had hit a Falcon Arrow on Priest. But the referee controversially stopped counting after two, even though The Judgment Day member didn't kick out. This led to speculation about whether the referee made a mistake or whether Priest forgot to kick out. Nevertheless, the match rolled on, and El Campeon took advantage of CM Punk's brutal attack on The Scottish Warrior and walked away with his title.
During a recent interview with the New York Post, the RAW Superstar finally acknowledged the incident. Priest rejected the claims of him forgetting to kick out, but also admitted that there was ''a situation.''
"The idea that I forgot to kick out [at WWE Money in the Bank], that’s not a thing. That’s not a thing. We don’t forget to kick out. Twenty years in, I’m pretty sure there is some kind of muscle memory there. So me forgetting was not the case. There was nothing outside that was supposed to happen. It was a matter of there was a situation, but I’m OK. Everybody’s fine; the story continues," Priest said. [H/T: Post Wrestling]
The reigning World Heavyweight Champion also added that most people had moved on from it, especially those who knew what happened.
"It doesn’t affect anything. The show goes on, and I think fans are very invested in everything that’s going on. The ones that matter knew the situation, and nobody thought twice about it. It was, move on!" he added. [H/T: Post Wrestling]
Meanwhile, Damian Priest is set to defend his title against King Gunther at The Biggest Party of The Summer next month.
Gunther addresses WWE management's faith in him and Damian Priest
Ahead of the Money in the Bank PLE, many fans felt that Seth Rollins was brought back in time to take the World Heavyweight Championship away from Damian Priest and face Gunther for a proper face/heel showdown. However, The Archer of Infamy not only retained his title in Canada, but he has also organically transitioned into a babyface ahead of his showdown with The Ring General at SummerSlam.
Meanwhile, during a recent appearance on the Gorilla Position podcast, King Gunther broke character and praised WWE management for having faith in him and Damian Priest and booking the duo for a World Heavyweight Title match for one of the traditional "Big Four" events. The Austrian star also admitted that now it was up to them to fulfill the expectations.
The feud between Gunther and Damian Priest has intensified in the past two weeks, and the duo is expected to deliver a banger at The Biggest Party of The Summer. It will be interesting to see how they fare in the big-ticket match in Ohio next month.
