Damian Priest reveals he initially wanted to cash in on major WWE star and not Drew McIntyre
Damian Priest cashed in his Money in the Bank contract at WWE WrestleMania XL on Drew McIntyre to capture the World Heavyweight Championship. However, he recently revealed that The Scottish Warrior was not his initial target.
In an interview with The Indian Express ahead of Money in the Bank, the 41-year-old addressed his Money in the Bank contract cash in on McIntyre. He pointed out that although he was happy that it worked out and he won the title, the Judgment Day member stated that he initially wanted to cash in on Seth Rollins at the Show of Shows. The Visionary and The Archer of Infamy are the only superstars to cash in at WrestleMania.
The Judgment Day member claimed it would have been a "cool story" to cash in on Rollins at WrestleMania:
"100% that's what I wanted to do. I really wanted to cash in on Seth and I haven't even been shy about admitting that. And if I could have done it at WrestleMania, oh man, it would have been so perfect. Not that it wasn't that I'm not happy. I think it worked out. But there's a part of me that I really wanted to cash it on Seth just for many reasons," he said.
The World Heavyweight Champion added that he wanted to beat the 38-year-old to solidify his position as a top guy in WWE:
"Mainly, yes, to your point, he did it first at WrestleMania just a cool story to say that I did it to him at WrestleMania but also because it's Seth Rollins. You know, he's the guy. He was the workhorse champion. So, for me, I really wanted to beat Seth Rollins. I think that would solidify me even more as a guy, you beat Seth for the title like that's huge. Not many can say that. You know, so, that was the main thing." [3:53 - 4:47]
Damian Priest will get his opportunity to fight Seth Rollins at WWE Money in the Bank
Damian Priest and Seth Rollins will square off for the World Heavyweight Championship at WWE Money in the Bank this Saturday. If Rollins loses, he will never challenge for the title again as long as Priest is the champion. Meanwhile, the 41-year-old would have to leave The Judgment Day if he suffered defeat.
Although Priest initially wanted to cash in on Rollins at WrestleMania XL, he feels like he now has another opportunity to go head-to-head against The Visionary and defeat him:
"But now at Money in the Bank, I get to, you know, at least rectify that, you know, one-on-one, I get my chance at being able to beat Seth Rollins," Priest added. [4:48 - 4:57]
In his interview with The Indian Express, Priest also disclosed that he was confident he would beat Rollins at WWE Money in the Bank and would not have to leave The Judgment Day. It would be interesting to see if his prediction will come true.
