Damian Priest's heartfelt promo on RAW criticized by WWE veteran (Exclusive)
World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest is one of the top stars on WWE RAW. With some help from CM Punk, Priest survived a match against Seth Rollins and a cash-in attempt by Drew McIntyre to leave the MITB PLE with his title. He, however, already has a new threat to his reign in the form of the King of the Ring winner Gunther. The two stars faced off in the ring this week on the show. The segment has earned criticism from wrestling veteran Vince Russo.
During the latest episode of RAW, the champion and the challenger made personal attacks against each other's character. While Priest called the Austrian privileged, the record-breaking former Intercontinental Champion insulted the Archer of Infamy's past, calling him "street trash."
The exchange of barbs was stopped when Braun Strowman made his entrance for his match against Priest.
Reviewing the show on Sportskleeda Wrestling's Legion of RAW podcast, Vince Russo was critical of the champion's promo about fighting for his life on the streets. According to the former WWE writer, the audience has no idea about the story because the company has never let their top champion talk about his background.
"So when he tells us I fought for my life on the street, I'm saying what are you talking about bro? So it's important that we hear from Erik Rowan but the champion.. so when he talks about fighting on the streets I don't.. what are you talking about?" [50:25-50:42]
The tension escalated between the two opponents who are set to face each other at SummerSlam after The Ring General attacked The Judgment Day member after he earned a hard-fought win over Braun.
