Damian Priest seemingly breaks character; shares what will happen if he beats Gunther at WWE SummerSlam
WWE Superstar Damian Priest recently broke his on-screen persona to praise his SummerSlam opponent. The reigning World Heavyweight Champion also explained the magnanimity of his possible victory over King Gunther at The Biggest Party of The Summer.
After winning the prized gold at WrestleMania XL, The Archer of Infamy successfully defended his World Heavyweight Title against top challengers such as Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre, and Jey Uso. Meanwhile, The Ring General lost his Intercontinental Championship to Sami Zayn at The Show of Shows.
Later, the 36-year-old earned his shot at the World Heavyweight Championship for The Biggest Party of The Summer after pinning Randy Orton to become the 2024 King of the Ring.
Priest and Gunther have traded verbal shots in the past two weeks on RAW. The duo also had a brawl this past Monday. Meanwhile, in a recent interaction with The New York Post, El Campeon broke character and hailed The King General as the pinnacle of in-ring performers in WWE.
The Judgment Day member also revealed that retaining his World Heavyweight Title against the 36-year-old star would solidify his position in the Stamford-based promotion.
"That [Intercontinental Title] reign that he [Gunther] had and the people he beat, and how he beat them, it’s kind of hard to argue that. So for me, regardless of everything he says, a win over him just solidifies what we’re talking about and my position in the company," Priest said. [H/T: New York Post]
Damian Priest opens up about Rhea Ripley's return to WWE
Rhea Ripley returned to WWE TV on the July 8 edition of RAW. The Nightmare suffered an injury this past April following a backstage attack from Liv Morgan and subsequently went on a hiatus.
During the same interaction with The New York Post, The Archer of Infamy shared that he missed The Eradicator a lot. The 41-year-old revealed that he was extremely happy to see Rhea Ripley back on television.
"We just got back from the gym, and we were riding in the car, and I literally told her, ‘Man, it’s really good to have you back!’ I’ve felt like I’ve been missing something, and it was my friend. It’s my road buddy. It’s my backstage buddy. Besides our TV dynamic, it’s everything else. I missed having that person next to me that also pushes me," he said. [H/T: New York Post]
Many veterans have predicted that WWE might put over Gunther at SummerSlam. It will be interesting to see if Damian Priest overcomes the odds to retain his title in Cleveland next month.
