Details of private conversation between Vince McMahon and Nick Khan prior to WWE sale comes to light

WWE CEO Nick Khan recently opened up on a conversation he had with former Chairman Vince McMahon over the sale of the company.

Endeavor Group, who also owns UFC, have now bought WWE for a whopping $9.3 billion valuation which is almost 30 percent greater than the highest market capitalization the wrestling company has ever seen.

Nick was asked about the conversation at Moffett Nathanson's Inaugural Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference.

Shedding some light on the private conversation, he said when Vince came back again it was to explore 'strategic alternatives' in terms of a sale. Khan also questioned Vince if it was just a way for him to come back to his company.

"'Hey, just tell me is this real because there’s some scuttlebutt out there that maybe this is just your way to come back in to your company,’ which again, he would have the right to do also and he said, ‘No, I’m committed to it. I give you, my word.'" [H/T eWrestlingNews]

Khan added that Vince wanted a strong banker on the deal and gave him his word that he was committed to the sale. The deal was then finalized on April 1st and announced on the morning of April 3rd before the markets opened.

Today, @Endeavor announced it has signed an agreement to form a $21+ billion global live sports and entertainment company made up of @UFC and @WWE.

Nick Khan addresses speculated WWE stadium show in Australia

In the same interview, Nick Khan was also asked about the show in Australia. He said UFC had already done a number of successful shows Down Under. He added that they were working on getting a government subsidy that would decrease their cost risks.

"So, look, they’ve (UFC) done a number of successful shows in Australia. We did an Australian stadium show that wasn’t televised pre-pandemic. So, we didn’t monetize it properly. So, a government subsidy for that show is something that folks are working on." [H/T eWrestlingNews]

Khan also believes that doing a show there on a date or month that works for their new partner, Foxtel, would help kickstart the relationship in the right way.
