Drew McIntyre brings up late WWE legend's name with contempt

Drew McIntyre is a three-time world champion in WWE. His direction is currently unclear as of this writing, but from a long-term standpoint, the creative team has a big fight in their pocket for the Scotsman, against CM Punk. The seeds have been planted, the rivalry has escalated, and now it is only a matter of time before The Straight Edge Superstar gets medically cleared to step back inside the squared circle.

McIntyre is the first European wrestler to have held WWE's world title, something he brought up at a recent live event in the United Kingdom. He also took a dig at late legend, Davey Boy Smith, better known as The British Bulldog.

The British Bulldog was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2020, eighteen years after his tragic passing. He is best known for the main event he had in London's Wembley Stadium against Bret "The Hitman" Hart at SummerSlam 1992. The bout was for the Intercontinental Championship, which Bulldog won. However, he never became a world champion, which Drew McIntyre mocked mid-match:

WWE will host a number of overseas premium live events this year, including one in Scotland, McIntyre's hometown. The show is a sequel to the successful Clash at the Castle in Cardiff, Wales, in 2022. That event was headlined by The Scottish Warrior. Could the June 15 show, Clash at the Castle: Scotland, feature Drew McIntyre once again in the main event? Only time will tell.

Wrestling legend explains why Drew McIntyre vs. CM Punk at Clash at the Castle: Scotland would be a bad idea

The rivalry between Drew McIntyre and CM Punk has reached a breaking point, and it is time for the two to settle their differences once and for all. Perhaps as soon as on Punk's first premium live event upon return.

Be that as it may, Tommy Dreamer feels that if the bout were to happen at Clash at the Castle: Scotland, the hometown hero would definitely get cheered to some degree at least. This would not be an ideal scenario for Punk:

"I always want to put people in the right. The best possible situations to win and put you in the best scenarios for you to get those great reactions. So, I'm not going to put CM Punk's return in a match or in a place where they're going to cheer his opponent because I want to invest a little bit more in CM Punk's return, and I would probably do that at SummerSlam."

Damian Priest's cash-in at WrestleMania XL was reportedly a last-minute call by WWE. Nevertheless, the angle helped add more heat to the brewing issues between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre.
