Drew McIntyre gives CM Punk 'credit' after WWE SummerSlam; potentially spoils major RAW plans
Drew McIntyre had some kind words for CM Punk after beating him at WWE SummerSlam. McIntyre also shared some potential spoilers for Monday's episode of WWE RAW in Baltimore, Maryland.
After months of buildup, McIntyre finally clashed against Punk at the biggest event of the summer in Cleveland, Ohio. Seth Rollins added drama to the match as the special guest referee, but it was The Scottish Warriors who came out on top versus his rival.
In an appearance on the SummerSlam post-show panel, McIntyre bragged about his victory over The Second City Saint as egged on by Wade Barrett. But he did give some credit to Punk for putting up a fight, but it didn't last. He took more shots at the straightedge superstar before potentially spoiling what would happen on RAW.
"I will give Punk credit. I did not expect him to bring the fight like he brought it. But realistically in 2024, Drew McIntyre is the absolute best in the world. The total package in every way. Who is Punk going to blame? He will probably come out on RAW. Maybe he will post a social media promo, 'It was Seth's fault.' 'It was the cameraman's fault.' He will make some excuse. Not just Punk but nobody on this planet is as good as Drew McIntyre. Punk found out in that ring, on this microphone, Drew McIntyre is the man," McIntyre said. [19:49 - 20:28]
The last few phrases uttered by Drew McIntyre were a clear nod to CM Punk's pipebomb back in 2011, which made him a top star for WWE. The 45-year-old superstar has a chance to reply to his rival since he's advertised to appear on this week's episode of RAW.
CM Punk shares moment with Stephanie McMahon after match
Stephanie McMahon made a brief cameo at WWE SummerSlam, which was her first appearance since WrestleMania 40. Stephanie doesn't have an official role with the company and continues to have no such distinction. She did share a special moment with CM Punk after his loss to Drew McIntyre.
Fans at ringside caught Punk hugging Stephanie for a brief moment, which could come as surprising for some. The Second City Saint has fixed his relationship with Triple H, so it's not so shocking that he also repaired his ties with Stephanie at some point after his WWE return.
CM Punk didn't have the best relationship backstage with a lot of people during his first stint with WWE. Things have changed now with everyone moving on from the past and having the same goal of making the company, and themselves, a lot of money.
