Drew McIntyre reveals backstage truth about the name given to him by Vince McMahon
WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre earned a golden spot on Monday Night RAW after sheer hard work. The Scotsman is thriving in his current role and also recently admitted that he is currently at the best moment in his career. While the moniker The Scottish Psychopath perfectly suits him, he recently revealed the backstage truth of a name given to him by Vince McMahon.
Vince McMahon had given Drew McIntyre the name ‘The Chosen One’. Speaking on Chris Van Vliet’s Insight podcast, he talked about the backstage heat he received because of this moniker. He also noted that it gave rise to a lot of professional jealousy from several corners.
“A lot of people did not like it backstage, so I didn't feel as much backstage with the professional jealousy that I didn't realize how significant it was and the things that were being said then it was all out of jealousy. Why is this kid getting this huge opportunity when I've been here for all these years? But for the opportunities on TV, I certainly did for a period." [From 17:20 - 17:46]
The Scottish Warrior also said that when he looks back at that time, he feels conflicted about whether he could have done things differently.
“And looking back, I know obviously I could have done things a little bit differently, but at the same time, I just didn't have those tools in my wheelhouse to do things differently. Drew McIntyre reveals how a former WWE Champion helped him get his first movie
Drew McIntyre’s first movie, 'The Killer’s Game', is set for release on September 13, 2024. Directed by JJ Perry, the Scotsman worked alongside six-time WWE Champion Batista in the film. Speaking in the same interview, McIntyre revealed how The Animal got him the role in the movie.
“J. J. Perry had said, ‘I've got this idea for this Scottish brothers, the Mackenzie brothers. I have one of them. The other one, I just want to be, you know, the big, imposing guy that can feasibly and realistically beat you up. I just want them to have these thick Scottish accents and be just wild, kind of drinking party badasses that are somewhat unintelligible because of their thick accents.’ And Dave (Batista) basically said, I actually know that guy, he exists.’ He called me,” said McIntyre.
