Former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre has reflected on the time Rey Mysterio offered to work with him during his early days in the company.

Years ago, The Scottish Warrior felt that his run on SmackDown was not going smoothly, and he needed something to push him in the right direction. He was referred to as "The Chosen One" by Vince McMahon, a decade before he finally captured the WWE Championship.

Drew McIntyre told Alistair McGeorge of Metro in a recent interview that Rey Mysterio was impressed with him and tried to help him out in a major way. The Master of the 619 told The Chairman that McIntyre was a talented star and wanted to do something with him, but it didn't lead to anything.

"I wasn’t doing anything significant at the time, my career was on a bit of a downward spiral at the time," said McIntyre. "I really needed to get into a storyline or work with somebody that could get be back on the right path. Rey actually went to Vince himself and told him, 'You’ve got something with this guy, I’d really love to do something with him.' Never materialised, they had plans for him unfortunately, but he really went out of his way to try and push for me."

Rey Mysterio is one of the most beloved wrestlers in the world, and there's no doubt that he's an all-time great. He was a hero to many people growing up, including McIntyre.

In the same interview, SmackDown star opened up about his favorite memory watching the WWE legend.

"You’ve gotta say Halloween Havoc in 1997 with Eddie Guerrero, with the purple outfit," McIntyre continued. "As a kid, that was just so unreal – he was legit a superhero, and still is to this day a superhero. I remember watching that when I was 11 or 12 thinking, 'This guy is unbelievable!" said McIntyre.
