EC3 reveals one regret from his WWE career (Exclusive)

EC3 worked for WWE between 2009 and 2013 before returning for another spell with the company between 2018 and 2020. The 41-year-old recently recalled how he adopted a negative attitude toward his creative direction during his career at the Stamford-based promotion.

Outside WWE, EC3 is a two-time TNA World Heavyweight Champion and the current NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion. In the Stmaford-based promotion, he held the 24/7 Championship on four occasions but struggled to receive regular television time on the main roster.

On Sportskeeda Wrestling's The Wrestling Outlaws show, EC3 said he regrets feeling like nothing he did on WWE programming mattered:

"There's this phrase we would have in the locker room. It was just like, 'Nothing matters.' That was back when I was there, though. Maybe it's better now. But [a higher-up would sometimes say], 'Hey, we have this idea, this angle, we have this context, these characters have this history. Oh, you're a tag team today.' 'Why?' Nothing matters, that's why. Nothing matters. It's a horrible mindset. If I have any regret, it was that I adopted that mindset, but it is what it is," he said. [10:27 – 10:58]

EC3 gives insight into WWE's creative process

In a recent interview with Metro.co.uk, former WWE star Shelton Benjamin said he almost became Paige's on-screen love interest. The 49-year-old also claimed the Hurt Business faction nearly reunited, before he received his release from WWE in 2023.

Reflecting on his own WWE experiences, EC3 explained how behind-the-scenes creative ideas regularly fail to take off:

"That conversation could have been as simple as one of the writers seeing Shelton in catering, talking a little bit, 'You know, it would be sweet if The Hurt Business came back,' Shelton like, 'Yeah, cool,' and the conversation ended and nothing ever happened. I'm not saying that's the case, but I'm saying with ideas they are just so easily spoken but not truly tangible to even worry about unless they're in the midst of being portrayed." [6:29 – 6:58]

In the same episode, Vince Russo shed light on how Elias found it difficult to get ideas approved while working for WWE.
