ECW Original thinks NXT 2300 was lame, missing something to be called 'top-notch'

NXT paid tribute to ECW on November 6 with a special show at the now-defunct company's old arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Former WWE Superstar and ECW Original Sabu was not a fan of the program and thought that it was missing something.

Several former ECW stars appeared on NXT 2300, such as Dawn Marie, Rob Van Dam, Nunzio, Tony Mamaluke, Rhyno, D-Von Dudley, and Francine. Bubba Ray Dudley even wrestled at the event, teaming up with Trick Williams and losing to Ethan Page and Ridge Holland.

Sabu, who was not part of the show, shared his thoughts about the tribute in an interview with Covalent TV.

"I thought it was lame. Even though it's a good show, good wrestlers, it was lame for a nostalgia ECW thing. The building doesn't look the same. It's not the same. It's not really a reunion or a top-notch thing, without me or Sandman. Both of us or one or the other. It's kind of a must, I think," Sabu said. [H/T: Fightful]

Sabu and Sandman were among the several ECW Originals who were not part of the show. Other notable Extreme Championship Wrestling legends like Paul Heyman, Tommy Dreamer, Stevie Richards, Raven, and Taz weren't featured on the program either.

Paul Heyman explains why he wasn't at NXT 2300

One of the missing ECW Originals on NXT 2300 was the mastermind behind the promotion, Paul Heyman. Now working as the Wiseman of the OG Bloodline, Heyman shared with ClutchPoints why he was absent from the tribute event.

"There was no need for me to be there because then since I had been off television so long. My presence was only going to be a distraction from the young stars that deserve the spotlight. (...) I wanted the focus to be, as it squarely should be on the talented men and women who are applying their trade in NXT," Heyman said.

Heyman was still off television when the show happened, so it would have made his return on the November 22 episode of SmackDown a little less special.
