Ex-employee rips WWE after Saturday Night's Main Event; claims Cody Rhodes is stale and directionless
Former WWE head writer Vince Russo recently spoke about Cody Rhodes' character work. The champion was in action this week at Saturday Night's Main Event.
Cody fought tooth and nail against Kevin Owens this week with the fate of the Undisputed WWE Championship hanging in the balance. The two men gave it their all. The American Nightmare finally nailed his opponent with a Cross Rhodes on a steel chair as the referee made the count.
This week on Vince Russo's The Brand, the veteran detailed that fans were possibly getting bored with Cody's character. He felt there was no compelling storyline leading up to the champion's matches. Russo explained that fans couldn't resonate with Rhodes' character, thus making him stale.
"He's getting stale as a character because they're not doing anything with him. Nothing. There's no story, there's nothing. He's just going out there and wrestling," Russo said. [From 14:25 - 14:35]

Kevin Owens attacked Cody Rhodes after the match
In the aftermath of the encounter, Kevin Owens blindsided Cody Rhodes as he was celebrating in the ring and addressing the fans in attendance.
KO knocked the champ down and then planted him with a vicious piledriver. He then walked away with the vintage Winged Eagle WWE Championship as medics and backstage officials rushed to help Cody.
After the brutal attack, Cody Rhodes was stretchered out of the arena and taken to a nearby medical facility. Triple H and SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis were present backstage as the champion was being taken away. The two men looked worried about Cody's well-being after the vicious attack.
It will be interesting to see the fallout from Saturday Night's Main Event in the coming weeks on WWE TV.
