Ex-writer thinks WWE is making a 27-year-old mistake with The Judgment Day (Exclusive)

The Judgment Day has lost quite some momentum since Rhea Ripley took a hiatus due to injury. An ex-WWE writer thinks that the creative team is making a 27-year-old mistake with the group.

The Judgment Day has risen to become WWE's second most-important faction - a distant second behind The Bloodline. Regardless, they dominated a good chunk of 2023, with Rhea Ripley and Damian Priest being the biggest breakout stars while Dominik Mysterio has been a big beneficiary as well.

When speaking to Dr. Chris Featherstone on Writing with Russo, ex-WWE head writer Vince Russo said that the Seth Rollins-Damian Priest interaction on the 17 June episode of RAW left a lot to be desired:

"We put Damian Priest over to the moon. We both saw that opening promo [with Seth Rollins]. Here's the point - at the end of that promo you don't care who wins or loses. You don't care!" [From 02:10 to 02:32]

Emphasizing the importance of timing, Vince Russo believes that Damian Priest needs to be removed from The Judgment Day because it's hurting his potential. He cited WCW's mistake with nWo 27 years ago when they ran the faction to the ground:

"Here's the thing about writing. It's all about timing. Now you know darn well they're going there. But my god bro, if you wait too long he is going to be dead in the water. What happened with the nWo? What happened when it got stretched out? Dead in the water. You have to know about timing bro, otherwise, he'll be dead in the water." [From 03:05 to 03:38]

It should be noted that nWo still had steam for a while after 1997, but that year was largely considered the creative peak of the legendary group.

A recent report suggested a very interesting future update on The Judgment Day

Vince Russo's wish might come true soon as there are rumors that Damian Priest could be leaving the group that he has been leading for the last couple of months.

A tweet from Xero News simply stated "Priest will feud with The Judgment Day very soon," hinting at the defacto (assumed) leader of the group finally splitting after over two years.

It certainly looks like a big possibility when considering how Damian Priest has been handled. The World Heavyweight Champion has received a lot of praise since winning the title and has stepped up in a big way.

It's reflected in the fact that he chose to directly face Drew McIntyre in his home country and immediately issued a title shot to Seth Rollins after his two-and-a-half-month hiatus.

As a champion, Priest is being presented as anything but a villain. So it should be interesting to see if the rumors come true in the months ahead.
